My husband and I are currently overseas, but will be returning to the States in December, 2010. We are trying to save up for a house, and have only recently gotten our act together. We only have about $30,000 saved so far, but plan on saving at least $4000 a month until then.

We were toying with the idea of buying a house in the spring and renting it until we return (possibly in Maryland). The houses that we have been looking at are in the $325 - $400,000 price range.

My question is, should we just save up as much as we can until December 2010, or try to get something in the spring and rent it out until we return.

FYI I am absolutely clueless when it comes to real esate. I have read a little here and there, but am really not savvy in this area.

I want to make good money, but still be able to see my husband and kid every once in a while!!

So, I have considered being a pediatrician, but medical school is very demanding….or Ive even tossed around the idea of going into real esate sales and eventually owning my own company as a broker!

Thank you all for responding so promptly to my question on obtaining a real estate license. Now I see and understand that I don’t need one to locate the apartment, but the obtaining the education would be beneficial to me. If I want to enter into a contract with an apartment complex do I need a license for that? I wouldn’t show the apartment to the renter, but I’d let them know where it was and all of the other fun stuff that comes along with the search.
